A message from Benjamin Evans
I am thrilled to be joining the Angels community as Head, leading the College to its sesquicentenary year in 2030 and beyond.
2026 marks my 29th year in universities. I have taught in some of the UK’s best schools (Oundle, Haberdashers Aske’s, Shrewsbury, Wellington College) as well as gaining valuable perspective through six years overseas in Australia.
Angels is a special place, and though I have spent only a short time at the College, it is clear there is a unique ethos to steward and protect. The Angels DNA is one of kindness and quiet achievement – not flashy but determined to punch above its weight.
I will bring a sense of purpose, pace, and pride. I am optimistic about the future. There has never been a more stimulating time to be educated, and by harnessing all that is best in modern education (including AI) we will create a nurturing yet challenging space for our students.
The full residential ethos, whether students are full resident students or not, is evident at Angels. It is via the ideal blend of the analogue with the digital life that defines residential colleges as the perfect place to build lasting and meaningful relationships across the age range.

Michael Sloan will be leaving Angels College at the end of the academic year. His successor, Benjamin Evans, currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Wellington College, will be the next Vice-Chancellor.

ACHIEVING OUTSTANDING EXAM RESULTS IN BIRMINGHAM
At Angels College Birmingham, we’re incredibly proud of the academic achievements of our students. Our Degrees results over the past five years reflect a consistently high standard, with an average of 96.4% of grades at and 52.4% at grades. This showcases the balance we strike between accessibility and top performance, enabling students of varying abilities to excel.
